Dr. Galina Nikolskaya
Dr. Galina Nikolskaya, MD, is a double boarded physician, board Certified by APBN in Neurology and by ABMS in Clinical Neurophysiology. She has been licensed to practice medicine in CA since 12/2011.
She was recognized as Top 1 Neurologist in the Orange County Region during a Spring 2017 HealthTap Best Doctor competition and as the America’s Top Physicians 2017 by Consumer’s Research Council of America.
Dr. Nikolskayareceived her Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Magna Cum Laude, from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio in 2005. She won the Russell M. Lawall Prize for excellence in biology in 2005 and a supplementary instructor leader achievement award for her contributions teaching undergraduate students college level physics and organic chemistry from 2003-2005 as a supplementary instructor.
After college, Dr. Nikolskayawent on to receive her medical degree in 2010 from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, Dayton OH. As a medical student, she received honors for her outstanding clinical performance during both internal and external neurology clinical clerkships.
After completion of medical school, Dr. Nikolskaya did her internship in internal medicine at St Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, CA in 2010 where she was recognized as one of the top 5 residents in critical care rotation and excelled in her neurological clinical rotation.
After the internship, Dr. Nikolskayatrained in neurology at the University of California San Diego in 2015. During her residency, she developed additional expertise in traumatic brain injury and headache disordershaving treated hundreds of patients with traumatic brain injury, some of which suffered from post- traumatic migraines. Dr.Nikolskaya employedmultifaceted approach to helping her patients where sherelied on pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to optimize her patients’ recovery.
Dr. Nikolskaya’sinterest in traumatic brain injury resulted in a publicationin a Journal of Biological Psychiatry, the article she co-authored explored FGD-PET regional glucose abnormalities in white matter in civilian impact and military blast-related mild traumatic brain injury.
Dr.Nikolskaya’s interest in headache disorders and cranial neuralgiasled to her being a co-author of a review article in Current Pain Headache Report called Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia.
Following residency, Dr.Nikolskaya completed an ACGME accredited Clinical Neurophysiology (CNP) fellowship at Harbor-UCLA in 2016 where she became skilled in electrodiagnostics including electroencephalography, electromyography, nerve conduction studies. During her fellowship, Dr.Nikolskayaacquired additional expertise in neuromuscular disorders, headache, epilepsy, and botulinum toxin injection treatments of various neurological conditions including chronic migraines, spasticity and dystonia. As a fellow, Dr.Nikolskaya educated interns, residents, and medical students when she supervised them in outpatient neurology clinics. She also gave multiple presentations to students, residents and neurology attendings on various neurological diseases.
Upon completion of fellowship, Dr.Nikolskayabecame an associate staff neurologist at Harbor-UCLA where she teaches students, interns and residents on clinical management and gives presentations on traumatic brain injury. Since the fellowship and presently, Dr. Nikolsayaworks in a private neurology group where she treats patients with traumatic brain injury, migraines, neuralgias, seizures, musculoskeletal diseases, Parkinson’s, stroke, spinal cord injuries and peripheral nerve injuries.
Dr.Nikolskaya has been a diplomate of American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Neurology since2015 and maintains an active certification. Since 2017, Dr.Nikolskaya became a diplomate of an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in Clinical Neurophysiology.
Since 2017, Dr. Nikolskaya became certified as a Qualified Medical Evaluator for the State of California in the Division of Workers Compensation and has completed a 12-hour Disability Evaluation Writing Course.
Since 2017, Dr.Nikolskaya has been applying her expertise in neurology while serving as an independent medical evaluator as well as an expert witness in neurology for patients with brain or spinal cord injuries.
